Welcome to Year 6, 2019

2nd Oct 2019

Life in Year 6 has gotten off to a busy start with lots of learning taking place every day. The children have settled well into their routines and have found their feet very quickly. Every days consists of Literacy, Maths, Spellings and Reading lessons with ICT, Art, Topic, Religious Education, P.E. and much more scheduled throughout the week. We have also been learning a new 'Primary Movement' programme that research has shown to have a very positive impact on growth and development. The programme entails performing a range of songs that have very specific actions. Even though we may look a bit silly doing them, they are great fun!

Many thanks to those parents who were able to come along to the introduction to 'Linguistic Phonics' evening. This new approach to spelling is being welcomed by the children and they are really focusing their skills on listening for individual sounds in words and exploring different ways these sounds can be represented.

Our first topic is the Rugby World Cup. The children have loved learning about the history of the sport, designing rugby kits and becoming familiar with the rules. We each have our own country to research and support and we have enjoyed playing tag rugby in P.E. We will soon be learning the Haka so watch out for video footage of that coming soon.

We are pleased to announce that 5 children from Year 6 have been selected as Anti-Bullying Ambassadors! Congratulations to Joe, Lucas F, Lucas D, Jamie P and Karl for successful applications. You will be of great support to others throughout the year!
